Kristina McCormack

My name is Miss McCormack.  I have been the Kindergarten teacher at Zion for 19 years, moving to the 5/6th grade last year. I love being able to help all kids learn academically while helping them know more about God and his love for us.

I graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon with a Bachelor in Arts degree with an emphasis on teaching in a Lutheran School.

I enjoy teaching and helping kids learn and I love the lightbulb moments when everything clicks. In the classroom, I aim for students to feel safe and special. I want them to try their best and know that they'll have a teacher who will help them through any problems big or small.

One of my favorite things to do with my students is reading books with them. In Kindergarten, I enjoyed reading books to the students and later the students reading them to me, but in 5/6 grade, I love reading novels with them. Last year we read Restart by Gordon Korman and Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson just to name a few.

In the classroom, I like to help students learn through games, activities and experiments, especially in science. We will play math board games, dice games and scavenger hunts.

The best part about working at Zion is that we are able to talk about God and show his love through everything we do. Another wonderful thing about working at a Lutheran school, especially Zion, since we are smaller, is that our school community feels like a family. The teachers know all the students personally and want them all to succeed.
